Federal Acknowledgement of the MOWA Choctaw
Friends, you have probably already heard that Congressman Jo Bonner has introduced a bill HR 3526 in U.S. Congress for federal acknowledgement of the MOWA Choctaw. He introduced it on Friday and made a public announcement at a town hall meeting today at the county seat in Chatom, AL. MOWA Chief Taylor is asking everyone to ask their friends and relatives to e-mail their U.S. Congressman asking them to support this bill and send copy to (cc) Congressman Jo Bonner by using the link below for congressmen. Obviously, the more nationwide public support we can get the more likelihood it will happen.
As you know, I have worked with the MOWA Choctaw for a quarter
century. Their story , a culmination of my research and their
oral history is published in They Say the Wind is Red: The
Alabama Choctaw Lost in Their Own Land, by NewSouth Books
in Montgomery, AL.
